On the trail of Loque’nahak

Wrath of the Lich King introduced a lot of cool new changes to the hunter’s pet system, including several new pet families. One of the new exotic pet families is called Spirit Beast and there is currently only one beast in the game in this family, a rare elite found in the Sholazar Basin named Loque’nahak. Its long respawn timer combined with its nice appearance makes it a much sought after pet.

It also doesn’t help hunters looking to tame this elusive beast that killing it is part of the Northern Exposure achievement, so other players will be more likely to slay it than to leave it for some lucky hunter to find.

Tracking down Loque’Nahak was one of the things I was most looking forward to in the expansion, so when I hit level 77 and got my Cold Weather Flying skill, I put leveling on the backburner and camped known spawn points in the zone in the hopes of finding it. After about one day, on Saturday, November 15th, I found it and tamed it. I believe I was probably the first hunter on the Defias Brotherhood EU server to tame it given that I was one of the first hunters to hit the level needed to tame it (76). In fact, one week later, I have yet to see another hunter with this pet, although I’m sure there must be some out there.

Confessions of the iron chef

The Storm Peaks, 04:47 Tuesday morning. The sun is about to rise on a mountain of dead rhinos and the first grand master chef. There can be only one! Rabble rabble!

Sorry, Mr. Rhino, but it's for a good cause.

So, yeah, I got the realm first cooking thing. I didn’t actually decide to try to get the achievement until Sunday, four days into the expansion. The impetus behind the decision was when I discovered that there were two ways to level from 415 to 450. The “normal” progression would be to buy one of the Dalaran cooking recipes to get from 415 to 425+ and then buy another to go from 425+ to 450. That would require 6 Dalaran Cooking Awards, which would take 3-6 days of doing the daily cooking quest as each completed daily gives 1-2 of the award tokens.

One week later, an update

Forsaken Rogue

It’s been a fun (crazy? stressful? amazing? tiring?) week since the launch and our guild is already housing quite a few level 80s. Our first guildie to hit 80 was Jinjiro, after about four days. A big congratulations to him on a job well done.

Also another congratulations to Jomotei for getting the [Realm First! Cooking Grand Master] achievement after some industrious two days of material grinding.

The general consensus seems to be that WotLK is delivering on its many promises, including very entertaining lore, fun zones to quest in and very interesting PvE encounters.

It’s On!

The wait is over, WotLK is here!
It's On!

It’s getting close…

Liek, really close:

Better get those preorders going; you don’t want to find yourself stuck standing next to this guy with nowhere to go to on the 13th.
